How To Pop shove-it

The pop shuvit is a fundamental trick that will elevate your skating game and impress your friends. Let’s break it down step by step!

1. Set Up Your Stance

  • Foot Placement: Position your back foot on the tail of the board, with your toes hanging off the edge. Place your front foot around the middle, angled slightly to help with the scoop.

2. Get Comfortable with the Basics

  • Master the Ollie: Before attempting the pop shuvit, make sure you’re comfortable with ollies. The mechanics of popping and jumping are similar.

3. Wind-Up and Prepare

  • Wind-Up Motion: Twist your shoulders in the opposite direction of the spin. This creates the necessary torque for the board to rotate.

4. Pop and Scoop

  • Pop the Tail: Use your back foot to pop the tail down firmly.

  • Scoop the Board: As you pop, scoop the tail of the board in the direction you want to spin (backside or frontside). This is key for getting the board to rotate.

5. Jump and Spin

  • Jump Up: As you scoop, jump straight up, keeping your knees bent. This will help you gain height and allow the board to spin underneath you.

  • Keep Your Eyes on the Board: Focus on the board as it rotates. This will help you gauge when to land.

6. Level the Board

  • Level Out: As the board completes its spin, prepare to land by extending your legs slightly to level the board out beneath you.

7. Land and Roll Away

  • Bend Your Knees: Land with your knees slightly bent to absorb the impact. Make sure your feet are over the bolts for balance.

  • Roll Away Smoothly: Keep your weight centered as you roll away.

8. Practice, Practice, Practice

  • Repetition is Key: Start on flat ground and keep practicing until you feel confident. Gradually challenge yourself on ramps or obstacles.

Bonus Tip:

  • Watch Your Technique: Filming yourself can help you identify areas for improvement and track your progress.

With time and practice, you’ll be popping shuvits with style and ease! Enjoy the process and have fun skating!
