The tailslide is a classic grind trick where you slide on your tail while keeping your front truck above the obstacle. It’s a great way to add style to your skating and works well on various ledges and rails. Here’s how to master the tailslide:
Foot Positioning: Position your feet with your back foot on the tail and your front foot near the middle of the board. Your front foot should be angled slightly for better control.
Approach: Roll towards the ledge or rail at a comfortable speed. Keep your knees bent and your body relaxed to maintain balance.
Ollie onto the Obstacle: As you approach the obstacle, perform an ollie to lift your board onto the ledge or rail. Aim to land with your tail sliding on the surface while your front truck stays above.
Lock in the Grind: As you land, shift your weight back to help lock your tail into the slide. This helps you maintain control throughout the trick.
Stay Low and Balanced: Keep your knees bent and your body low to stabilize yourself during the slide. Look ahead to spot your exit.
Exit the Slide: As you approach the end of the ledge or rail, prepare to dismount. Shift your weight forward and perform a slight ollie to roll off the obstacle, landing with your knees bent to absorb the impact.
