How To Kickflip

The kickflip is all about timing, technique, and style. Once you’ve got it down, you’ll feel a real sense of accomplishment. Let’s break it down!

1. Set Up Your Stance

  • Foot Placement: Position your back foot on the tail of the board, similar to an ollie. Your front foot should be across the board, angled at about a 45-degree angle. The toes should be near the edge, ready to flick.

2. Get Comfortable

  • Practice Balancing: Roll around on your board to get comfortable and balanced. Being confident on your board is crucial for executing the trick.

3. The Pop

  • Pop the Tail: Use your back foot to pop the tail down firmly. This motion is similar to an ollie, but it’s important to maintain focus on the flick with your front foot.

4. Jump and Flick

  • Jump Up: As you pop the tail, jump straight up. Keep your knees bent for better height and control.

  • Flick the Board: As you jump, slide your front foot up towards the nose of the board. When you reach the top, flick your toes off the edge of the board to initiate the flip.

5. Spot Your Board

  • Watch It Spin: Keep your eyes on the board as it flips. This will help you gauge when to prepare for landing.

6. Prepare for Landing

  • Extend Your Legs: As the board completes its flip, extend your legs down to prepare for landing. Make sure to keep your feet over the bolts for stability.

7. Land and Roll Away

  • Bend Your Knees: Absorb the impact by landing with your knees slightly bent. This helps with balance as you roll away smoothly.

8. Practice, Practice, Practice

  • Repetition is Key: Keep practicing until you feel comfortable with the trick. Start on flat ground and gradually challenge yourself with ramps or ledges.

With determination and practice, you’ll be kickflipping like a pro before you know it! Enjoy the process and keep pushing your skills!
